Vocational Training
Through partnership with the African-German Energy Development Association (AGEDA), MADRA Development Foundation secured funding for its first project in The Gambia. In July 2021, a solar powered borehole was inaugurated at SIMMA Vocational Training Centre in Bundung. The borehole, which is earmarked for a proposed horticultural centre in the school will also ensure constant supply of clean water for food and pastry production, as well as greatly improve the general hygiene conditions in the school. It also caters for the less fortunate members of the nearby community who are unable to afford clean water supply in their own households.
Rural Development
MADRA Development Foundation in collaboration with its main partners - AGEDA have recently commissioned two boreholes to help tackle the acute water shortage in Kerr Pateh Koreh - a village situated in the North Bank Region of The Gambia. The two solar powered boreholes will not only act as a catalyst in providing much needed clean drinking water for the community, but also improve overall health and well being of community members. Plans are also on the pipeline to set up a horticultural project with the aim of promoting all-year round agricultural activity.
Student Sponsorship
It is no coincidence that the most developed of nations have the greatest literacy ratio amongst their population. That simply tells us that the role of education in the development discourse cannot be over emphasized. To that end, one of MADRA Development Foundation's main objective is to contribute towards educational development by sponsoring needy and hardworking students. With support from our partners, we have been able to secure sponsorship to cover full course fees for a great number of students thus far.
COVID-19 Relief
Back in May 2020 at the heat of the COVID-19 pandemic, MADRA Development Foundation together with its partners stepped in to offer some glimmer of support to a number of needy families in The Gambia. Basic and everyday items such as Rice, Cooking Oil, Sugar and soap were donated to deserving families whose livelihoods were rendered destitute by the rampaging COVID-19 pandemic.
